Fire Committee

The Mountain Springs Ranch community is in a high wildfire danger zone. The Fire Committee works with community members to provide education regarding risk reduction, the secondary fire escape route and general fire safety awareness.

Mountain Springs Ranch is a member of Firewise USA Communities, a nationwide group of small communities in high fire risk areas under the direction of the National Fire Protection Association . Through this membership, our community has access to a wealth of risk reduction information. Our membership also gives our community priority consideration to obtain grant funds for fuel reduction efforts.

Our Community Wildfire Protection Plan (CWPP) was recently approved by the Colorado State Forest Service (CSFS), Glenwood Springs Fire Protection District (GSFPD), Garfield County, the BLM and the MSR HOA Board. This important document addresses the history of wildfire in our community, how response to wild fires in our community is coordinated among agencies, and our community’s plans for fire mitigation and fire safety. This document contains an action plan that addresses education and outreach programs, fire mitigation efforts and fire preparedness. This document will also lay the foundation for applying for grant assistance to help implement some of the fire mitigation projects for our community.

Annual Fire Committee events include wood chipper days for owners to chip slash and downed wood (weather and fire risk permitting) and educational material presented to the MSR community at large.

Here are a few common sense guidelines to follow in order to prevent fire in Mountain Springs Ranch:

  • Please do not toss cigarette butts out the car window.
  • If parking off the side of a road on the grass, please do not drive on the grass until your car has cooled down as the heat from catalytic converters can start fires on dry grass.
  • No open camp fires.
